Max Verstappen is not only the strongest but also the last of the Mohicans, the driver who, together with Hamilton and Alonso but more than them who have adapted themselves to modern times, could belong to the circle of heroic F1 drivers because he speaks their same language. Max Verstappen doesn’t care much about safety, he doesn’t like safety cars, he would even race in the snow, he doesn’t like the show, the interviews, the stupid and repetitive questions. He wants to race fast and on really challenging circuits, he almost always answers annoyed the press's questions, even the less tendentious ones, he is not afraid of accidents. In short, Max is a fair guy, who loves racing, period.

The rest doesn’t interest him at all, including women - and in this he differs from the greats of F1 of the past that lived women as intensely as racing. To summarize: a gruff, loyal, old-fashioned and, at times, almost romantic person. A good guy in his own way, even if he often drives dirty, damages his opponent and doesn’t respect him. But wanting to dig and a lot, Max isn’t even gentle with himself. And anyway, even with his rough and suburban bully way, if you have behaved well with him and you get into his good graces Max doesn’t forget and doesn’t betray, even after years.

And it is also for this reason that, although courted with tens of millions of euros, he has always remained with the same team, Red Bull which, although often criticized by him and with harsh words, remains for him, raised by the very strict and no-holds-barred education of his father Jos, a real bulldog, almost a second family. This is Max's little world, where he lives in luxury but without many frills. Grumpy and shy to the point of rudeness, he is always ready to fight with anyone and at any time. But he is also paternal and full of attention with the little daughter that his girlfriend Kelly Piquet had from her previous relationship with his fellow driver Daniil Kyat, demonstrating a kind soul. In short, a pissed off but true one.

And, above all, Max Verstappen is a magician behind the wheel. A debut in Formula 1 at a very young age and incredible results, in line with the strongest ever. And without weak points, because he is fast in any circumstance and in any weather. He eats everyone's breakfast, like Senna and Schumacher did. And Max takes us back to those heroic times with his driving. It is difficult to predict what his numbers will have been at the end of his career and only then will it be possible to hypothesize a comparison with the giants of the past. But, at least until now, Max is with them and in full right. He says he doesn’t want to race in Formula 1 for much longer and, if he were to stop soon, we will miss him and he will be missed by Formula 1 because there is only one Max and it will be difficult for anyone to get close to him. Because he drives like God and practically never makes mistakes. His level of concentration while driving is not human but almost diabolical.

Having survived, fortunately having landed in an already safe premier class, accidents that in the Formula 1 of the past would have killed him, he has gained the necessary experience by completing his learning and has transformed himself, miraculously unharmed, into an invincible cyborg. If one criticism can be made of him, which is no small thing, it is that he is not a sports driver like Hamilton, he throws his opponent off the road as soon as he can and is willing to engage in physical combat in any circumstance, even when he is completely wrong. A sort of circuit bully. His ways are rough and his character moody and fickle. His almost total lack of diplomacy leads him to clash with everyone, including his engineers. The only one he really respects is his father Jos, who introduced him to racing with brusque and dictatorial methods (among other things Jos forbade Max from overtaking on the straight, to practice duels, to try to see an opportunity in every curve) and who now says that it is better for Max to be more tender in his answers. He has never been a driver with a suitcase - like many of his spoiled current colleagues who race in F1 only for their parents' money - and he has earned money and glory by sweating and risking in every curve, knowing that racing would have been the only way for him to assert himself.

Among his colleagues, the only one he truly fears is Lewis Hamilton and that’s why he has thrown him off the track as soon as he could, even risking to hurt him. He feels certainly superior to the rest of the drivers, except perhaps to Charles Leclerc. But these questionable personal characteristics, together with his superior driving skills, far from alienating him from the public's favour have elected him as a sort of charismatic Messiah of speed.

His fans are Dutch, the Zandvoort circuit is now a football stadium, but the orange wave that supports him has now spread throughout the world. Max Verstappen has the charm of the invincible, of the modern hero and his fans see in him a new Senna, even if perhaps Max in his heart feels superior to him too. Because he, for everyone now, is SuperMax.

Responding to the general backlash he faced on his driving behaviour, the reigning four-time world champion said: "yes, but they don’t have the world champion mentality. I will always go to the limit to get the most out of every race and if I have to force it, then that’s just how it goes. Sometimes you have to cross a line. Well, I do.”

Max Verstappen asserted that for 70 percent of the 2024 campaign he didn't have the fastest machine, he is convinced he would have won it driving his closest rivals' cars too. In fact, when asked if he could have won the title with McLaren, he replied: "yes, even earlier, so [I would have been] further ahead. [With the Ferrari], pretty much the same I think. The Mercedes, no. I think that would have been trickier."

The Mercedes driver said the newly crowned world champion told him: “he was going to purposefully go out of his way to crash into me and ‘put me on my fucking head in the wall.’ So to question somebody’s integrity as a person, while saying comments like that the day before, I find is very ironic and I’m not going to sit here and accept it. People have been bullied by Max for years now and you can’t question his driving abilities. But he cannot deal with adversity. Whenever anything has gone against him, he lashes out. Budapest this year, the very first race the car wasn’t dominant, crashing into Lewis [Hamilton], slamming his team... As I said those comments on Saturday night and Sunday were totally disrespectful and unnecessary. Because what happens on track, we fight hard, that’s part of racing. What happens in the stewards’ room, you fight hard, but it’s never personal. But he’s taken it too far now." Russell had wanted the incident to remain private until he saw Verstappen’s outburst in the media. “I honestly just want to set the record straight,” George said, “because it’s just a total double standard that he has for the regulations and just thinking he is above everybody else.”

Sophie Kumpen, Max Verstappen’s mother, was two-time Belgian karting champion. Influenced by her family, she started kart racing aged 11.
Sophie Kumpen began her career in kart racing competing at four Karting World Championships and winning the prestigious Andrea Margutti Trophy in 1995, becoming the third woman in history to win a major international karting title after Susanna Raganelli and Cathy Muller.

As a young girl Sophie Kumpen wanted to prove to the world that girls could compete against boys in the karting world.

Sophie Kumpen's career was so remarkable that she could envision reaching Formula 1 one day.
In 1995, at the prestigious annual Andrea Margutti karting competition, which takes place in Lombardy, near Bergamo, Kumpen took victory over Jarno Trulli, just after the latter won his second karting world championship. However, Verstappen's mother managed to win the Andrea Margutti ahead of him.
In 1996 Jos Verstappen married Belgian ex-kart driver champion Sophie Kumpen. Jos and Sophie were married to each other from 1996 to 2008 but endured a torrid time together. Their marriage was never happy and the only reason they stayed together for so long was for the sake of their children. Verstappen and Kumpen were both extremely passionate about motorsports and their early years together were fueled mainly by this shared love. However, after Jos retired from F1 at the end of the 2003 season, their relationship went downhill. Max Verstappen was just four years old at the time, two older than his sister Victoria. Sophie Kumpen retired from racing upon the birth of her son Max in September 1997. She returned to racing in 2013, competing in the Formido Swift Cup in the Netherlands before suffering a career-ending injury at Zandvoort.

To get around, Max Verstappen uses a Dassault Falcon 900-EX, a private jet equipped with every comfort, to which fans have even dedicated a social media account where every move is monitored. He customized it with the colors of Holland and the lion, symbol that he also sports on his helmet. The aircraft was purchased towards the end of 2020, it belonged to Richard Branson, founder of Virgin. Cost? Around 13 million euros. Inside there are beds, bar and relaxation corners and a total of 12 seats.
