Lando Norris - good taste and Ferrari in the heart

A restrained, barely hinted celebration: Lando Norris is the 2025 world champion.

He deserved the title because he scored more points than Max Verstappen, the Messiah, the absolute best, the greatest of all time. He deserved it because he had the nerves of steel to resist the comeback of Max and his teammate Oscar Piastri. Each of these three has something romantic, unheralded, close to the Formula 1 of long ago.

Lando also deserved it for his grace and sportsmanship; today we cheered for him. Because, even if he doesn't say much, Lando has something interesting to say. One of the few in this Formula 1 and perhaps in general. Because you can win with class.

Is Lando Norris the new James Hunt, the James Hunt 2.0? He's the idol of young girls and in today's world, which has very little taste, at least when it comes to cars and women, Lando has class.

He's perhaps currently, along with Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen, the only character with enough personality and depth to set him apart from the others. Yes, Lando has something of his own, something different, less excessive and not living in total superficiality like the others.

He's certainly no James, he doesn't have his damn charm and model body but he's perhaps the closest thing to him today.

And on his love for Ferrari Lando, when asked what team would he go to if McLaren had to leave F1, said: "I can't answer that one, I know exactly which one I would love to go to, it’s the team that everyone wants to be part of at some point in their career."

From established sports journalist Ben Hunt, the very first biography of the up-and-coming British driver Lando Norris, published on the brink of the British Grand Prix.

As the youngest ever British Formula 1 driver, Lando Norris is trailblazing his way through the world of motor racing.

After signing as a junior driver for McLaren in 2017, he has since asserted himself as the team's brightest talent and an aspiring world champion.

Born to British and Belgian parents and raised in the idylls of south-west England, Lando's childhood reflects how even the calmest of upbringings can create an adrenaline junkie.

As one of a new cohort of young drivers seeking to assert their dominance in the sport, Lando is a uniquely modern sportsman, who celebrates learning and personal development, but who nonetheless has the killer instinct required to take him to the very pinnacle of F1.

Lando Norris' beautiful Miura.

Lando Norris owns one of the most beautiful cars ever made. By Alex Gassman on June 26, 2024.

Like many other F1 drivers, Lando Norris lives in Monaco. In a country where modern day supercars are commonplace, it takes something special to turn heads. And Lando Norris now has the very car for the job.

Lando Norris in a McLaren.

Lando Norris in a McLaren.

The whole time he’s been in F1, Lando Norris has driven for McLaren. That’s meant his line up of company cars has been pretty spicey compared to the usual range of tax-dodging efficient diesels or hybrids available to most normal employees. In fact, he’s had most of the McLaren supercar range as his company run abouts over the years.

Lando Norris with one of his cars.

Lando’s been seen driving a 570s, 720S, 765LT, Artura, Elva and pretty much every other McLaren road car to have emerged from the Woking-based plant over the last few seasons.

But he isn’t restricted to just driving McLarens. Recently it was unveiled that Norris has commissioned a bespoke, one-off restomod Retro Land Rover Defender. This unique car is a re-engineered classic, with all new components and a roofless body. He can be sure he’ll be the only guy driving one of those around Monaco.

Lando Norris' tailor made Land Rover.

Now the Land Rover is cool. Very cool. But Lando owns something else that blows it out of the water. He owns one of, if not the best looking car ever made.

The Lamborghini Miura came about in the mid 1960s. At that time Lamborghini had not long branched out from just making tractors to producing cars and, after their initial model, the 350GT, was in steady production, the young team at Lamborghini wanted to have a go at making something a little more racey.

And so the Miura was born. Named after a reknowned breeder of fighting bulls, the technical name for the car was actually the P400. P stood for the rear engine placement ‘Posteriore’ and 400 was for the size of its 4.0 litre engine.

The body, that beautiful body, was designed by the legendary Bertone styling house. Just 762 Miuras were produced and Lando Norris now owns one of them.

Lando Norris' beautiful Miura.

Lando purchased his car, a ‘base model’ P400, from legendary UK-based Italian car dealer Joe Macari.

The car is in pristine condition, as all of Macari’s cars are and features a stunning deep blue paint job. The interior has been retrimmed in bright orange which is very fitting for the McLaren F1 ‘papaya’ driver.

Lando Norris' beautiful Miura.

It features a classic open-gate manual shifter with a wooden gear knob and that iconic Lamborghini steering wheel with six holes in it, two on each of the three spokes.

On paper the colour combination sounds a little questionable but in reality it works perfectly.

Lando Norris' beautiful Miura.

The engine is a 3,929cc (3.9 litre) transverse mounted V12, producing 345bhp in Lando’s P400 model.

In the later models, the P400S and the P400SV, the engine produced 365bhp and 385bhp respectively. But in a car that weighs only 1200 kg, Lando’s 345bhp is more than enough for it to still feel fast, almost 60 years after it was built.

Lando Norris' beautiful Miura.

We’ll never know how much Lando paid for his Lambo. The advert listing on the Macari website just stated it was £POA which means if you have to ask you can’t afford it.

Classic.com shows that, between 2021 and now, six P400s have sold at auction at prices ranging from $995,000 to $2,707,000. After a P400 SV recently sold for just under $5m, Hagerty suggests a concourse P400 is now worth a little over $2m.

With this particular model having been refurbished and finishing in a bespoke colour scheme, I reckon Lando probably paid somewhere around $2 – $2.5 million for it.

So it turns out you can put a price on driving something unique in Monaco. It’s a few million dollars. But unfortunately that price obviously doesn’t get you a very good battery, as Lando found out when he had to be push-started in the Miura by fans.

Lando Norris has just added a Ferrari F40 to his incredible car collection. By Alex Gassman on November 08, 2024.

Lando Norris was recently spotted putting some fuel in the latest addition to his incredible car collection on the streets of Monaco.

His new purchase is one of the most iconic Ferraris ever made and many consider it to be the greatest supercar ever. Lando has taste.

Driving Formula 1 cars for a living means that most normal road cars are going to feel slow and boring for a F1 driver like Lando.

His collection is undoubtedly one of the finest of all the Formula 1 drivers.

He used to use as his daily driver in Monaco a Fiat 500 Jolly recreation.

Lando Norris' Fiat 500.

As expected, Lando does also own some faster road cars. Being a driver for the Mclaren F1 team, it’s no surprise that one of those is one of the most powerful performance cars that Mclaren produce, a 765LT Spider.

This one in particular was customised for Lando by Mclaren Special Operations (MSO). They gave it a bespoke blue carbon paint job and custom interior designed for their F1 driver, complete with his logo dotted around the car.

And now Lando’s added another incredible car to his already out-of-this-world collection. It may be his finest choice yet.

Recently, Lando was spotted stopping at a gas station on the side of the road in Monte Carlo.

He had just fuelled up his new to him Ferrari F40. This is the first time Lando had been spotted in this car.

Lando Norris and his red Ferrari F40.

Launched in 1987 to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary, the Ferrari F40 was the last model developed under Enzo Ferrari’s oversight. Production ran until 1992, with only 1,311 cars built, making it a rare and highly coveted collector’s item these days.

At its heart, the F40 is powered by a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, producing around 478 horsepower and 426 lb-ft of torque. This allowed the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 4.2 seconds and achieve a top speed of 323 km/h (201 mph), making it the first production car to break the 200 mph barrier.

The F40’s body is crafted from Kevlar, carbon fiber and aluminum, materials chosen for their strength and lightweight properties. This focus on weight reduction brought its curb weight down to approximately 1,100 kg.

To help keep it light, the paint was so thin that you could see the weave of the carbon fiber body panels through it.

Lando Norris' red Ferrari F40.

For their raw, uncomprimising performance, the F40 is heralded as being one of the purest and most desirable Ferraris ever built. For that reason, they now command serious money.

Prices for F40s in the UK start at around £1.5m – £2m. But for a very low mileage one in perfect condition, you can expect to pay a lot more.

Lando’s particular F40 is fitted with non-standard wheels. As we’ve seen from the other cars in Lando’s collection, he likes to add his own touch to his vehicles. So his F40 is fitted with non-standard wheels.
