Jannik Sinner – the humble champion with the red passion

Jannik Sinner is still very young, but he has ancient wisdom and knows life.

He skis very well, he could have `become a champion there too, he has been and can return to being the world's number one tennis player and,- when asked what makes him happy about being in this position, he replies: "the thing that makes me happiest is that I can play tennis every day."

He likes fast cars, speed.

He not only has the hallmarks of a champion, but also rare, old-fashioned characteristics.

Compared to his peers, he cultivates passions that belonged to previous generations: beautiful girls, cars and sports. And he is a sportsman, a true gentleman. This way clearly evident during the 2023 Masters at the end of the year, when he had the chance, by losing his match and still advancing to the next round, to eliminate Novak Djokovic, who then beat him in the final. I don't know how many tennis players today would have done that, but certainly did.

And finally, Jannik Sinner, along with Carlos Alcaraz, is the heir to the giant of giants, the legend Novak Djokovic. And all this while remaining humble, like when he first hit the court.

And Jannik also has good taste, because he chose Ferrari for his cars, Maria Sharapova, a sort of Venus with a racket, for tennis and Lindsey Vonn and Alberto Tomba for skiing.

Not that bad Jannik.

December 09, 2024. Jannik Sinner was only 12 years old that day in December 2013 when Michael Schumacher had the serious skiing accident that would change his life: "it was a blow for me. That episode made me realize that life can change in a second. Never take anything for granted."

"Then I had the pleasure to know Maria a little bit more. We practice sometimes together and knowing her personality as well. It's great. And especially for a guy who is 19 years old and when Maria was there (when) I was 18, you know, it makes you grow obviously a little bit faster, I would say", Sinner said.

Maria Sharapova revealed which player she currently supports: "the last coach of my career, Riccardo Piatti, coached Jannik Sinner for several years, so I had the opportunity to play against him several times. I always support him. I like his humble approach to the sport and I enjoy watching the new generations."

And Jannik reciprocates: "I haven't known you for so long but long enough to know you are not only a great champion, that I have learnt a lot from, but most of all a great human being. Thank you for all the memories and good luck in your next endeavours. Always here if you fancy a Christmas boggie,,,"

The day before leaving for Slovakia, Sinner was in South Tyrol, among his mountains, in the sweetest of company. He had been snapped by paparazzi with a former world-renowned champion, to whom he shares a bond that, though recent, is as sincere as few others.

The woman in question is Lindsey Vonn, who in the first decade of the third millennium was the star skier for the US national team. The two stars skied together and, judging by the words Jannik used to talk about her, this did him a world of good on the eve of such an important event as the Davis Cup tie.

"Meeting Vonn and skiing with her," Sinner said of his "date" on the snow, "was fantastic. Exchanging opinions with such great champions, even if they're not in your sport, is extremely educational. She inspired and motivated me."

Jannik Sinner and Alberto Tomba.

By now everyone knows that the 2001-born athlete from Sesto Pusteria started out skiing and (moving to Bordighera when he wasn't even 14 to work with coach Riccardo Piatti) went on to rewrite the history of our tennis, driving not only fans crazy but a wider audience, just like champions like Valentino Rossi, Federica Pellegrini and... Alberto Tomba did in Italy. After his victory over Djokovic, Albertone, the Italian national team's champion, spoke out about the Sinner phenomenon, specifically in an interview with "La Stampa" on November 16, 2023, expressing his deep affection and admiration not only for the player but also for the emerging young man.

"Now he's part of our exclusive club, the one made up of me, Valentino Rossi and Federica Pellegrini", said the Bologna-born ace, referring to those capable of changing the perception of a sport in our country, becoming a figurehead. "I'm sure he'll remain at the top for many years, because he has a calm personality and his humility will help him a lot in his work. Jannik is great; I even texted him during the match against Djokovic; I knew he would win. He told me we'd have coffee, but I'm preparing a surprise for him, even if he has to reach the finals. I spoke to him on video call, I told him this to cheer him up and I can tell you we have a mutual friend. I know his manager, Alex Vittur, well because his father, Guido, was the national team coach when I started out in 1985. What a twist of fate! I remember Jannik when he was a child competing in the Fila Sprint Trophy on skis. I was there to reward the little ones and I remember this thick mass of curly red hair..."

While speaking with Vasseur and several Ferrari mechanics and technicians, Sinner discussed the connection between tennis and Formula 1: "both tennis and motorsport are considered individual sports, because on the court or in the car you're alone", Sinner said, as reported on the official Ferrari website. "But for each of us, it's essential to have a team behind us that works in harmony to achieve a goal. And the sacrifices made by team members are the same as those made by those who play or drive. You can only reach the top together; alone, you won't go far."

A Formula 1 partner for 2024, Sinner inherited his passion for motorsports from his father and grandfather. On the track, he said, "it was my first time and it was a wonderful feeling. I felt enveloped by the car, as if it were an extension of my body. A bit like a racket, only much bigger..."

"It was my father and grandfather who passed it on to me. I've always watched the races with them since I was a kid. But then, when I started winning at tennis, there was the problem of overlap, because if you reach the final of a tournament, you play on Sunday, the same day as the Grand Prix. So nowadays I watch them afterward."

Sinner is a true enthusiast and he demonstrated this by speaking in detail about his visit to Maranello, where he also visited the assembly lines: "when I'm behind the wheel, the detail that excites me the most is the sound. And the sound of a Ferrari is always unique. But here in Maranello, I was struck by the attention paid to every detail that makes every Ferrari unique, whether it's the livery, the seat, or even the finishes. It was also wonderful to see the sense of belonging that everyone who works here feels: it almost feels like an honor to be part of a brand that has written the history of a sport. And much more."

October 04, 2024. There’s no secret that Jannik Sinner loves Italy and fast cars. With Enzo Ferrari’s Modena complex practically in his backyard, Sinner made a celebrity visit to the home of the Prancing Horse to experience some of Ferrari’s top supercars. In posts on Facebook and Instagram, he documented his exciting experience.

At the Ferrari factory, Sinner had the opportunity to meet with Ferrari executives and get up close with some incredible Ferrari racing machines.

He even had the chance to test drive both the Ferrari Purosangue and Ferrari’s high-performance SF90 Spider Assetto Fiorano on the world-famous Autodromo di Modena Circuit.

For most car enthusiasts, even wealthy collectors, this experience is nearly impossible to access due to its exclusive, invitation-only nature.

In a 2023 interview, Vogue magazine published that, when Sinner was asked about what attracted him to the Ferrari brand, he responded by talking about Ferraris’s Italian heritage and creativity.

“The Italian heritage, combined with the ability to always be creative and lead innovation in the field, made our latest collaboration so unique, it’s why I enjoy working with Gucci”, Sinner said.

Apart from Gucci, Jannik Sinner also has partnership deals with Nike, Lavazza, Head, Alfa Romeo, Rolex and others.

Sinner arrived at the Abu Dhabi circuit several hours before the start of the final race of the season, on his first outing as a Formula 1 Ambassador. The day began with a thrilling start, as Jannik climbed aboard a Ferrari 296, a road-legal car driven by Charles Leclerc at the end of the Academy race, the women's series won by Ferrari driver Maya Weug. Jannik then greeted the Prancing Horse team in the garage, posing for souvenir photos with the mechanics and enjoyed the hot laps, a speed-loving man. Even a GT can reach high speeds; the 296 can reach 330 km/h.

Lots of smiles and autograph requests for the world's number one tennis player, who completed a few laps around the Formula 1 circuit, an activity organized directly by Ferrari. It will be a busy day for him, filled with meetings and fun.

A Ferrari 812 Competizione.

July 22, 2025. Rumours suggest that Sinner owns a Purosangue and an SF90 Stradale. He also had an 812 Competizione on order, which was spotted in Maranello during pre-delivery testing in May. The spec on Sinner’s 812 Competizione is quite unique, too. The car has a Grigio Silverstone Opaco exterior, which is essentially a matte white shade, with Giallo Modena highlights. It also features a black top section with a double yellow stripe running down the centre. The 812 Competizione is powered by a 6.5-liter, naturally aspirated V12 engine that produces 830 hp at 9250 rpm and 510 lb-ft at 7000 rpm. The car sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.85 seconds, while its top speed is 211 mph.
